Rainbow foods (pvt) ltd passes the traceability audit for Yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) and Black Marlin (Makaira indica). Rainbow Foods (Pvt) Ltd is part of the Rainbow Group which consists of Rainbow Enterprises, Rainbow fisheries and Rainbow Engineering & Suppliers.

Rainbow foods use traditional Sri Lankan fishing vessels which are licensed to operate in FAO 51 fishing areas and export according to both EU & BRC global standards. They can relay any information about their products at any given time. Rainbow foods scrupulously maintain all the records from the vessels until the products reach the buyer which assures both their suppliers and end consumers.

Mr. Mano J De Silva, Rainbow’s Managing Director states, “By gaining Friend of the Sea’s certification for traceability we can demonstrate to our customers the quality of our products and their sustainable origins. We are also happy to have a local Friend of the Sea monitor as a point of contact; this has definitely enhanced our collaboration.”

Friend of the Sea is the only certification scheme which actively verifies the Chain of Custody of approved suppliers using its International Monitoring Program. Paolo Bray, Executive Director of Friend of the Sea explains that “Friend of the Sea has a local monitor based in Sri Lanka who regularly spot checks harbors, vessels, production lines & warehouses and also provides a local point of contact for the fishery. This guarantees retailers and consumers that Rainbow’s yellowfin tuna and marlin are not mixed with other origins and derive from environmentally friendly fishing fleets.”
